Sour and spicy shrimp mango salad

To be honest, I don't know what to call this food, whether it's mango sambal or mango salad.  But, let's just say this is a sour, spicy, and savory mango salad because it has extra shrimp in it.

I'm the type who likes to eat spicy and sour, so the mood is boosted when I'm eating foods made from mango.

This chili sauce was made by my husband who was inspired by one of many posts on social media.  He likes to cook and create food from some ingredients in the kitchen into delicious preparations and I like him because I can eat well without having to bother (hehehe).

  • 1 young mango
  • 10 shrimps
  • 1 lemongrass, sliced
  • 8 chilies, 
  • 2 lime leaves, sliced
  • 4 cloves shallots
  • 4 cloves garlic 
  • 1 sdm sugar 
  • Soy sauce (optional)
  • Salt to taste

How to cook:

  1. Peel the mango, clean it and cut it into small pieces.
  2. Clean the shrimps after cutting the heads, and fry them in a little oil until cooked for about 1-2 minutes.
  3. Grind the chilies, shallots, garlic, lime leaves, and lemongrass using a mortar and pestle.  It doesn't need to be too smooth so the texture is still there.
  4. Add fried shrimp, and grind again until not too smooth.
  5. Finally, add salt and mango pieces.  Grind briefly so that the mango juice comes out a little and adds sour flavor.
  6. If it tastes too sour you can add some sugar or soy sauce.
  7. Serve this mango salad with rice or eat it straight away.
Note: you can use raw prawns in making rujak instead of frying them.  So just peel and cut it into pieces and then mix it with all the ingredients that have been ground.
