Soupe a l'oignon is a simple and popular dish in France, and even in the world. This soup is made from onions, broth, and bread with melted cheese, the ingredients are minimal but the taste is extraordinary. Soupe a l'oignon is sometimes called similar to Spanish Soupe de Ajo, but soupe de Ajo has more complex ingredients, with the main ingredient being garlic.
In general, this soup a l'oignon process goes through a roasting process to melt the cheese on the bread along with a bowl of soup which is done in the oven. But this time, a soupe a l'oignon recipe will be presented without an oven, and of course, it's simple for you to practice at home.

Ingredients:
Soup:- 4 pieces of onion, sliced
- 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
- 1 tsp thyme leaves
- 2 bay leaves
- 4 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1 liter of beef or chicken stock
- Salt and pepper to taste
Bread:
- 4 slices of French bread or baguette
- 100 gr of grated cheese

How to cook
Step 1: Sauté the onions until caramelizedHeat the skillet, add the butter, let it melt then add the onions. Sauté until caramelized about 15 minutes. After that, garlic and sugar, stir well.
Step 2: Pour stock, season, and cook until it boils
Add the broth to the onion mixture and then season with the thyme, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Cook until the soup boils then remove.
Step 3: Toast bread with grated cheese
Prepare several layers of bread that have been given grated cheese, and bake until the cheese melts. Bake in a pan over medium heat.
Step 4: Serve French Onion Soup
Pour soup into bowls, place toast on top, and serve hot.
